‘Kandla Port’ renamed as Deendayal Port
The Kandla Port has been renamed as ‘Deendayal Port’ in the name of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
The Ministry of Shipping issued the required notification on the occasion of the closing of the year-long centenary celebrations of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
Kandla Port is the largest seaport of India (by volume of cargo handled) located in Kutch District of Gujarat.
Kandla was constructed in the 1950s as the chief seaport serving western India after the partition of India from Pakistan left the port of Karachi in Pakistan.
