You can operate this zero balance account on a single, joint or any nomination, even on the basis of the pre-nomination. Also, these accounts with zero balances have the same interest rate as a normal bank account. That is, you can get 3.5% interest on a zero balance deposit at less than Rs 1 crore.
There is no cost to issue a debit card for this zero balance account. Generally a debit card of Rs 100-300 will be issued on normal bank account. The bank issues ATM-debit cards on a zero-balance account basically. It is issued free of charge. Another important thing is that there is no charge for closing a zero balance account. However, only HDFC Bank charges a charge of Rs 500 for a zero balance account, which is closed from one year to the next 15 days after opening. If there is no charge for closing the account after 1 year then there is no charge.
